Our body naturally goes through several stages during sleep.

For the sake of simplicity, we’ll refer to these stages of sleep as light vs deep sleep.

Light sleep is exactly what it sounds like.

It’s the stage of sleep when you’re lightly falling into sleep.

You’re not quite there but you’re almost about to fall asleep.

It’s what you might call the stage in between being awake and being asleep.

Waking up during this stage of sleep is not too much of a hassle because you’re really not asleep yet.

However, deep sleep is when your mind is in need of staying asleep.

Deep sleep is when your body is deeply engaged in repairing it self.

It’s also the stage of sleep when you dream.

The important thing to understand here is that our bodies naturally cycle between light and deep sleep throughout the night (i.e. light -> deep -> light -> deep -> light).

Forcing yourself to wake up with an alarm clock during the stage of deep sleep is unhealthy. .

Instead of gambling with your health and hoping that your alarm clock goes off during the stage of light sleep, why not let your body take care of this naturally on its own?
